There are two basic types of mopping with microfiber flat mops. Dust (dry) mopping and wet (damp) mopping.

Microfiber dust mop pads are most often constructed with a finer microfiber designed to attract and hold onto small dust particles and dust bunnies. While they can be used wet, the fine fibers create too much friction when damp and pushed across the floor. Dust mop pads can be constructed with or without microfiber loop fringes which extend the mop pads reach, allowing it to reach into corners and hard too reach places.

Microfiber wet mop pads are designed to create less friction, and have better scrubbing ability when wet.

The most common microfiber wet mop pad is the "twist mop", which is constructed of alternating microfiber and polyester fibers with a twist loop pattern. The polyester fibers distributed evenly throughout the pad, serve a dual function; they provide superior scrubbing ability, and limit the friction created by the wet microfiber twists.

The "chenille" microfiber mop pads are designed for maximum soaking capacity; they can soak up large spills, or apply extra water to the floor surface.

Microfiber Scrubber Pads are designed to be used damp, and typically designed with rows of an abrasive material (like polyester) with rows of microfiber in between. The abrasive scrubbing material mechanically loosens dried spills, and the damp microfiber soaks it up.
